that slomo of luffy bouncing up and down is insane. and to think this was chansard rushing lol
I wonder what the enshutsu reasoning for the last cut to have Kaidou be full irotore. In the next cut, he's lineart again. There's no real reason for him to be irotore in this cut as far as I understand. I mean, it looks awesome and Vincent did an amazing job, but I wonder if there's any other reasoning than "it looks cool". As far as visual consistency goes, it comes across as a bit jarring (imo). 233919 has a similar angle, but it has Kaidou in black lines.
Dont get me wrong though, its an amazing sequence, Chainsard is a powerhouse of an animator. Its just the enshutsu's decision to keep it in irotore I'm confused about.

I think that's the only reason. Beautifully menacing.

Such a Toei episode

Not even the only reused cut
Episode was frustrating at the start so many amazing part. But glued together with reused material and weird pacing. It's ok tho, i loved it, just for those amazing cuts. Vincent you did it again MOFO !!

If I understand correctly, Ueda did the 3 cuts before the chorus, so the cut before this upload and the first two.

2d crowd is always cool
In that first cut, the background layer is panning is faster than Geto and the other pedestrians are walking (and those pedestrian layers aren’t walking at a uniform enough speed either). If you remove the crowd, Geto would be skating down the sidewalk. I think that’s the main reason why this shot throws me off, and I hope they adjust it for the blu-ray

I also found the mobs also just being 2d cards bouncing in place in a lot of these shots was pretty distracting. That being said, it’s a decent attempt to do the background extras cheap without cgi, and doesn’t fully ruin this sequence for me. The character acting (both animation and VA) carry the scene.

Cgi crowds just wouldn’t fit with this art style

As Geth would put it, it seems quite “economic”.

you people are making it so hard for me to like this great sequence
Love how this has turned into a meaningless argument, enjoy the artistry at work, it is not life or death.

I won't deny the insane level of talent and artistry present here, but one of the most important parts about old "Looney Tunes" animation is that it's extremely readable. I've gone through several threads and it seems like a lot of people had no idea what was happening during this scene, myself included. I mean 0:14-0:20 alone is visual nonsense. I don't think it should take several rewatches to understand what's happening in a cut, and there are plenty of examples of cuts that are insane and ridiculous but also easy to read.

Again its weird and experimental and its beautiful in that way, but imo it doesn't entirely work
Exactly how I feel, amazingly put
this comment session is insufferable. This is art. No questions.

very easy to read actually
Disagree, this absolutely has barely any readability, have the boars being responsible for this or what, but you cannot literally blatantly say it isn't and ignore how convoluted everything literally is. The scene was really impressive, but incredibly incohesive.
