dunno about that tbh, I was rather thinking that rewatching it now I can kind of spot the mecha design that will go on evolving till Gurren Lagann and beyond (I say mecha design but I could apply it to some things in Little Witch Academia and in Kill la Kill too, actually)

Also, this scene always reminds me of the one in Birdy The Mighty Decode, second season, the protagonist's flashback... a fight scene bathed in red light, with a female droid in a sci-fi battle gear fighting a huge humanoid skull-faced robot. Curious, isn'it? xD
