Very much enjoyed this knife fight. This episode was storyboarded and animated very well overall. And those smears look fantastic!
Thanks for splitting the sequence, that's how I was hoping it would be uploaded.
Duude Naoki Kobayashi is either getting better, or he stopped doing the no-anticipation to movements kind of animating. Also, smears up-close?

(E: okay, I'm wrong, its just much less rapid hits Naoki does and thus a bit more build-up for hits.)

He recently worked on Your Name and that movie didn't really have any combat scenes for him to work on. HOWEVER he DID work on that SAO movie and I'm positive he must of worked on some combat centered scenes.
Few new animators impress me as much as this kid. He's just so good.
Did Norio Matsumoto 2nd KA this scene?
Know what enhances the potency of this scene? Kobayashi's Sakura Twitter-drawings. Feels like I'm breathing in the aroma of his enthusiasm. :)
...akin to fanimation.
So much more force and weight to his newer animation it's amazing. Kobayashi really loves his back rolls and flips during combat.
the way shin take the kunai from sakura's hand is amazing
Those smears, oh my god...
Captain American VS Winter Soldier!oh Boy~!!!!!
Kobayashi !! All his cut are just so good, his hand to hand is so good !
