As a manga-only fan of Kenshin. I had no idea this adaptation had such fantastic cuts in it! this kicks ass!

Yeah, many episodes are very good in animation, until a pair of filler episodes!

Will gonna say the same thing as the past comments did. That outdated digital FX is so distracting ngl.

Those inverted/distorted colors effect were quite common in the mid 90's (Yu Yu hakusho, for example, used a similar effect on the Chapter Black Saga, everytime the "Territory" ability was used).
I believe the jarring effect at these scenes were meant to be intentionally disruptive (to caught the attention of the viewer) - I enjoy it, but I totally understand how distracting it can be.
I have to be honest, however: it is possible to see equally - if not more - distracting and unfitting fx on contemporary shows that constantly overuses cgi and relies heavily on cheap looking filters, tho
