I am a kicker for visual storytelling in fight scenes. And it's been a while since I saw something like this since Naruto vs Sasuke: final valley (i don't watch much anime now). the flashbacks paced correctly with the fights making it seem like a culmination of moments concluding gintoki and takasugi's promise and utsuro's demise with a nostalgic feeling to all the moments the viewer have been through, it is perfect storytelling in anime fights.
