Need Help Identifying This Animator (Your Name Spoilers)
https://streamable.com/8gwv

I saw Your Name at AX and the first animation that really caught my eye was Kou Yoshinari's beautiful segment just past the midpoint of the film. But this running sequence is also really great and I know that I recognize this animation style from someone but I can't pin down who it is. I suspect its Inoue possibly Okiura, but I'm not sure.

Anyone have any leads?
Confirmed Okiura.

Btw, I don't think Kou worked on the film.

Thanks, glad I could get this confirmed. I don't really look at the Japanese sakuga wiki and other sites like that but the flashback sequence of Mitsuha's past sure shares striking similarities to Kou's unique post-processing.

Huh. This is why I don't tag animators on the booru. Can't wait for the film to come out on blu ray cause there's a a lot of standout animation.
Yoshitoshi Shinomiya is actually credited in the end credits for the flashback scene. Direction, animation, and photography. Also credited are three people for 3DCG and 5 people for "special coloring."

He says on his twitter that Takayo Nishimura also worked on the animation for the scene.
Mateusz Urbanowicz was one of those 5 people. On his site he did a short post about the backgrounds he painted for the film.

CGWorld put out an article about the 3D layouts used in the film.
It includes a few good pictures of the process.
Shinkai says in an interview that the ceremonial dance at the shrine was choreographed by Kabuki actor Kazutaro Nakamura. They filmed Nakamura performing the dance and based the animation on it. So not precisely rotoscope, but close. The motions of the dance represent the first comet incident.
